Im Glockenacker

Collective Housing

Zurich, Switzerland
Studies 2012-2016
Construction 2016-2018

The Im Glockenacker development plan replaced obsolete residential buildings erected between 1958 and 1962. The main criteria of the layout and structure of the existing residential buildings no longer met today’s standards. In Zurich, living space has been very tight for quite some years. That’s why the owners decided, with the approval of the city authorities, to project new buildings for the site. In terms of densification, five new buildings will house 60 flats instead of the existing 26 ones thanks to changed zoning regulations. The compact structures nestle in the inclined terrain thanks to a half-story offset between the flats. The attic floor could be designed more freely thanks to this offset and offers an attractive roofscape.
